TURMERIC
Key Epigenetic Compound: Curcumin
Turmeric has made just about all of our Super Food lists so by now you must know to add this to your health regime every day.
Neither curcumin nor turmeric taken orally is well absorbed unless taken with black pepper or piperine, a constituent of black pepper responsible for its pungency,” says integrative medicine doyen Dr Andrew Weil, M.D. His recommended dose is 400mg to 600mg daily. Be Aware:benefits may take eight weeks to kick in from when you start taking it and pregnant women should check with their doctor before ingesting.
BROCCOLI
Key Epigenetic Compound: Sulforaphane
One cup a day of broccoli or other cruciferous vegetables containing sulforaphane may undermine cancer. Its impact on cellular function may also interrupt cues for cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease and aging.
GREEN TEA
Key Epigenetic Compound: Polyphenols
In a study of lab mice, polyphenols appeared to suppress the gene that triggers breast cancer. Recommended – 3 cups daily.
RED WINE/GRAPES
Key Epigenetic Compound: Resveratrol
Research has indicated this may induce death of cancerous cells without promoting further mutations like chemotherapy can.
It is also linked to warding off Alzheimer’s. The science pegs activation of a group of genes known as ‘sirtuins’, which protect DNA and speed cellular repair
Suggested: one mg daily in a glass of red vino or purple grape juice, or unripe red grapes
Realize that when you eat a food, you are triggering a ripple effect that penetrates all the way to your genetic code. Make these foods a part of your daily epigenetic game plan. Also be attuned to the Spiritual new wine; the new wine is the spiritual blood to revitalize, reenergize, rejuvenate and regenerate your new wineskin body!
GET PHYSICAL!
Exercise is an excellent way of achieving epigenetic modification. Not only does exercise release endorphins, which are natural mood-boosting brain chemicals that can reduce stress, but it also induces genome-wide changes. Become flexible and strong! Become fluid and move in the Spirit!
DREAM ON!
Insufficient amount of sleep is linked to a number of health conditions such as obesity and immune suppression – so make sure and get the recommended 8-10 hours of ZZZZs a night.
CHILL!
Avoid stress overload. Although many people carry emotional scars, burdens and traumas that can negatively affect their health, it is possible to limit stress and start smelling the roses.
We know….easier said than done but you can actually turn your genes on and off with your emotions! That’s why limiting stress is an important way to achieve epigenetic modification.
Many of the steps mentioned above, such as exercise and meditation can reduce your stress and there are many other methods out there for cutting back the adrenaline rushes (meditation on words of Jesus or qualities of Abba Father, massage, singing, dancing…you get the idea). Just find the one(s) that work best for you.
Experiments have proven meditators displayed a range of genetic and molecular differences, including altered levels of gene regulating machinery and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory genes over non-meditators. This translates to faster physical recovery from stressful situations.
